A wonderful original PERSONAL drawing / illustration with original provenance. PRINCESS MARGARET PERSONAL DRAWING FROM 1935. A MOST BEAUTIFUL AND GENUINE ORIGINAL DRAWING. An incredibly special presentation. An original colour drawing by late Princess Margaret. Obtained by Mr Percy Benham. Percy Benham (1910-2004) began service with the Duke & Duchess of York as nursery footman in 1934, and continued service with King George VI and Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace, retiring from royal service as Yeoman of Glass and China in 1975. He was awarded an RVM gold medal, a class of the Royal Victorian Order which was instituted by Queen Victoria for personal service to the Royal Family which is bestowed by The Sovereign and not on the advice of the Prime Minister. This very special collector's piece is an original hand-coloured cut out of a toy horse on wheels, c. 1935. Pasted on to an envelope and inscribed in block capitals by Princess Margaret "To Granpapa from Marscaret" with two large kisses top right), approx. 13 x 21 cm. Granpapa seems more likely to have been King George V than her maternal grandfather Claude George Bowes-Lyon, 14th Earl of Strathmore. The final four letters of the name Margaret appear more controlled and may be in another hand. Presented here in superbly preserved condition. Now protected with mylar style wrapper and housed in protective slipcase. One of several pieces sent by the current Royal Monarch and available in our listings at this present time.
