Title Mouseman 1930s carved English oak statue of a Bishop
Catalogue number 007321
Original Mouseman 1930s carved English oak statue of a bishop. A full size carving with palms turned outwards and a large recessed carved mouse to the rear. An imposing size of approx 44cm (17inches), the base is approx 5 inches squared. A simply beautiful and detailed original vintage Mouseman piece from the 1930s period when Robert Thompson was still at work. This piece was commisioned made by Robert Thompson's for the Order of the Holy Paraclete, Whitby North Yorkshire and has remained with them until now. Striking figures were seldom made due to the extra skill required when tooling, this is a wonderful one off piece. Despite the age, and heading towrads 100 years old, this figure is in overal excellent condition. There are natural marks and wear over the many years which only go to add to the charcter and authenticity of this wonderful piece. One of the Bishop's right fingers has had a small repair though still looks in very nice order. We did consider having this fully reconditioned, but feel it would be detrimental to it's original character and would certainly loose it's charm. It is certainly a piece you will never come across again. We have shown many images, which certainly do not do the piece any justice at all. We hope you enjoy our range of original Mouseman hand made English Oak furniture and gifts. Original quality Mouseman gifts.
