Silver Bon Bon Dishes 1909 Sheffield
Original pair of solid silver Bon Bon dishes. Clear hallmark to the base of each bowl, 1909 Sheffield by W&H (Walker & Hall - NOW known as Mappin & Webb). Very elegant BONBON dishes and stunning examples of the period. Lovely quality. Approx size: 158mm wide at widest part. 110mm tall. Approx weight 462g for the pair. Walker & Hall was established in Sheffield in 1845 by George Walker. The business was joined by Henry Hall and became in 1853 Walker & Hall. The factory was at Howard Street, Sheffield, while showrooms were opened in 45 Holborn Viaduct, London. Branches were opened in Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Cardiff, Belfast, Hull, Bristol, Melbourne and Adelaide (Australia), Cape Town (South Africa). Walker & Hall was converted into a limited liability company in 1920 under the style Walker & Hall Ltd and combined in 1963 under the British Silverware Ltd with Mappin & Webb and Elkington & Co. 100% authenticity. Original pair of solid silver Bon Bon dishes. Clear hallmark to the inner side of each bowl, 1919 Sheffield by RFM (Robert Fead Mosley). One of the makers marks is slightly light, otherwise very clear. Lovely quality. Approx size: 112mm wide at widest par. 50mm tall. Approx weight 202g for the pair. Lovely bonbon dishes in solid silver. Robert Fead Morley was born into a family of well-known London jewellery and allied trades manufacturers. Since the early 1800s several branches of the family were active or had connection with the jewellery trade around Hatton Garden area of London. Robert Fead Mosley (1841 - 1921) was the son of Cornelius Lewis Morley a "steel pen holder & pencil case makers & Birmingham & Sheffield factors". Soon he began his own business in Sheffield and in 1864 he was listed as "scissor and table knife manufacturer, 214 Brook Hill", moving to Portland Works in Portland Lane just off West Street in 1871 (Portland Works consisted of small units used as temporary manufactories for smaller businesses unable to keep a whole premises). The business was managed in partnership with Henry Lawton under the style R.F. Mosley & Co. The partnership was dissolved in 1873 (but Lawton family continued to be linked to the firm). In 1879 the activity was transferred in a new building in Randall Street and R.F. Mosley called these new works, Portland Works. The firm was incorporated in 1897 under the style R.F. Mosley & Co Limited. Its first directors were Robert Fead Mosley (Managing Director), Arthur Lawton, Henry Hobson Mosley and Samuel Lawton. The firm ceased its activity in 1935 transferring goodwill, premises, customers, stock and machinery to the new Company of R. F. Mosley & Co Ltd managed by Albert Oswald Mosley (until 1968). 100% authenticity. Beautiful original quality silver and gold investment pieces at RARE AND SIGNED.

Original Silver Embossed Trinket Box / Ring Box. Clear hallmark to the inner base and also outer rim of lid. 1901 Birmingham by A&LL (Adie & Lovekin Ltd)). Lovely quality. Inner base has full maker and silver hallmarks. Lid has hallmark, dating this 1901 Birmingham. Approx size: 85mm wide at widest x 33mm and 20mm tall. Approx weight 36g weight. Adie & Lovekin Silversmiths were active in Snape Street, Hockley, Birmingham from the late 1800's. The firm became Adie & Lovekin Ltd in 1889. The company manufactured a wide range of silver fancy goods at the end of the 19th century and had a factory in Regent Street, Hockley, Birmingham. In 1894 they commissioned Mansell & Mansell to design a new factory at 23, Frederick Street, Birmingham which became known as 'Trafalgar Works'. 100% authenticity.
